Ten times it tried and failed to catch one of the exotic birds feeding on the waters of Kenya's burning Lake Nakuru.
But at the eleventh attempt, the predator used all it's speed, cunning and withstood the pain of the water to finally grab one, plucking it from the air as it struggled to take off.

Pouncing: The hyena speeds through the water to catch the flamingo on Kenya's Lake Nakuru

one slow bird
The hyena walks off with its kill
Lake Nakuru's waters are a soda lake meaning they are so caustic human skin would be burned off. Astonishingly, flamingoes thrive there feeding off tonnes of green algae.
And it didn't put off the hungry hyena either.
Vadim said: 'This was one determined hyena, he was definitely the brave one. Hyenas usually hunt in packs but this one went out on his own.
'It was incredible seeing such a large animal move so fast through the water. The birds distance from the shore usually make them impossible prey.
'Sadly for the flamingo it was just not fast enough and ended up being a meal, but it must have stung a bit for the hyena so there is that.'
Ukrainian Vadim, who now lives in Israel, has been photographing wildlife for ten years.
He said: 'Seeing this has made the ten years worth it, I was actually in my car driving alongside the chase which is how I managed to keep up with the action.'
